Mission and Goals

It is the mission of the Denver Public Schools Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services to provide support so that students have the opportunity to achieve the knowledge and skills necessary to become contributing citizens in our diverse society. Our focus is on identification, assessment, education, intervention, and collaboration with families, school professionals and communities to ensure that students with hearing loss and other auditory difficulties achieve their potential.

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) services in the Denver Public Schools (DPS) provide an array of support to students with hearing loss and other auditory difficulties.

It is the goal of the DHH services at DPS to:

  • Support the needs of students, staff and families by fostering an understanding of hearing loss
  • Provide a continuum of evidence-based intervention strategies and services to improve students' auditory access, communication abilities, and academic achievement
  • Make available to students an environment where their language needs are central and essential to a free and appropriate education

The DPS mission and goals are met through a variety of programs and services throughout the district.
